The Citizen Photographer workshop is designed to empower participants to document their own communities with intention, care, and confidence. The focus is on using photography as a tool for storytelling, self-representation, and civic engagement rather than just technical perfection.
During the workshop, participants will explore:
- The role of photography in shaping narratives about people and place
- Ethical approaches to photographing communities, including consent and respect
- How to observe moments, recognize meaningful stories, and photograph with purpose
- Practical techniques for creating strong images using accessible tools, including smartphones and cameras
- A guided shooting exercise followed by group discussion and reflection
The workshop is accessible to all skill levels and centers lived experience as a valid and powerful point of view. The goal is for participants to leave feeling confident in their ability to tell their own stories and more aware of the impact images can have within their communities.
